Watching the news this morning about ex-pats living in Spain and who they'd vote for the referendum. One of them said she was voting out because of immigration into England.

I don't think the government run the census, the 2011 census was run by the office of national statistics which independent, correct me if I'm wrong.
So if the 32% figure is totally incorrect (I'm willing to accept it is by the way) what figure did you get the last time you took a headcount in Newham? You're just guessing, because that figure doesn't pair up with your internal worldview so therefore it must be way out.

The weirdest character in it was the Asian fella who's family had apparently come over in the 1930's. That's no 3rd/4th generation cockney accent I've ever heard before.
Yeah can just see him at his Friday afternoon prayer meetings...
"GAWD' BLIMEY LOVE... LOOK AT THE STATE OF YOUR BOAT.. NO WUNDA' YOU KEEP IT COVERED UP... RIGHT ME OL' FELLOW MUZZY'S ... BEND THOSE 'AM'S AND GET DOWN ON YER SWEET PEAS... AND PRAY TO THE ALMIGHTY.."

Its a very emotional issue.
I lived on the same acreage from ages 0-18 and in the few instances I have driven past, even recently, it is hard to see it used by someone else, they are not using all the garden space, they have torn down the cow shed my dad built, etc. It hurts a bit as that will be a part of who I am.
That said, if I take a step back, objectively and obviously I had to leave there and later so did my mom after my dad died. Part of me wishes that I could have bought the place but most of me knows that I really disliked the town nearby and that I could not do what has made me happy in life if I was there.
Should I be upset at the people that moved in?

Eddie - I was wondering that myself. Your accent is shaped by the people around you. My missus is a Kiwi but because my kids interact with other Essexers they both have local accents. Not a trace of Noozellund. That bloke must have only ever spoken to other Indian-accented people.
I took my old girl to Mile End hospital on Tuesday to have her cataracts done. While in the waiting room we were chatting to a very pleasant lady with a really really thick South Asian accent. Turns out she was born in Leeds and then moved to east London when she was a kid. Had never lived in Bangladesh, where her parents were from.
Having said that I used to date a girl from Holloway who had Spanish parents and had gone to a Spanish school in London. Even thought she was in her mid twenties she had a very strong Iberian accent. Ah... Begonia Martinez Lopez, whatever happened to you? *checks Facebook* Oh, got married and moved to Spain.

Brentford. No. That's not what the word majority means. If you represent 49% of something you are still not the majority. You may be the largest single group but not the majority.
Your general election example proves my point. No-one ever gets a majority of the votes.
However, in almost every election, except 2010, one party gets more than 50% of the seats which is what "winning a majority" is called. In 2010, no-one got a majority (more than 50%) of seats so there had to be a coalition. Between them, they had a majority (over 50%) of seats.
According to this thread, in census data, 40% of people in Newham define themselves as Christian (remember the African, Caribbeans, Filipinos etc). 32% a Muslims.
So based on your own example of general elections, there is no majority religion in Newham.
The Muslims and Christians could come together and form a Christislamism religion and then you'd have a majority religion... I may have just solved religious conflict in one post on WHO.

Since when is only 51% a majority? If 32% is the largest number of any single religion or ethnicity then that is the majority religion or ethnicity. Same as a general election, the winner doesn't or very rarely gets over 50% as there is more than 2 choices.
Not difcicult to work out is it?

Official figures rely on everybody taking part and data being honest and accurate. And preferably not up to ten years out of date. Good luck with that. Meanwhile I live and work in shitty London and I have the evidence of my eyes, my ears and my experiences. I don't rely on the gubment to tell me what is going on.
